Spotlight customer reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: Amazing! Better than Bootcamp Comment: Let me start out by saying that I tried to install Windows on my Mac a few months ago, with Bootcamp. Well, Bootcamp ended up erasing my entire hard drive--I lost everything. Wouldn't you know that my back-up hard drive I had purchased didn't arrive at my door until the day after this...
I was hesitant to try this again, but Fusion came highly recommended by Apple Geniuses and I really needed Windows for one program for work on my Macbook.
After an easy, breezy set-up, I now have Windows, and my hard drive is still intact! Fusion is really amazing. No restarting the computer to put into Windows mode; it goes into stand-by when not in use. Files are easily found and used on both OS. I can even watch my Netflix now.
I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a program other than Bootcamp. Thank you Fusion!
Customer Rating: Summary: Don't count on the rebate Comment: I purchased and submitted the normal and competitive rebates. Both require the original UPC, which is clearly impossible. I submitted the original UPC with the larger of the two. Both got kicked back, one for the UPC not being original, the other for not providing proof of previous ownership, which I did submit. I hope Smith Micro enjoys my money, it's the last they will ever see from me.
Customer Rating: Summary: Rebate time limit Comment: A fine product and I have 3 guest OSes on my MacBook. Windoze XP was the easiest to install while RHEL 4 was the hardest and Solaris 10u5 was not far behind. The most difficult phase was trying to create a UNIX disk for the Solaris and Red Hat installs ... not much help in the VMware documentation. Fusion runs beautifully, but now that there is VirtualBox, I might recommend trying this free software.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good Product Comment: I really hate to admit that I need to run Microsoft Windows on my Mac, but I have some lab software that can only run on Windows. VM Fusion has provided a much more stable environment especially in Unity mode than other options(except for Apple Boot Camp, but who wants to dual boot). I definitely recommend this product
Customer Rating: Summary: Great way (and instructions) on how to "clone" your windows to your mac Comment: I bought the VMWare fusion and I thought I had to buy not only a new windows xp/vista, plus all the additional programs to make the change. Well it happens that after reading some reviews and some research on my side it is somewhat easier to transfer your WHOLE pc to your mac, WITHOUT having to buy the windows xp copy, nor the windows office...
1. Go to VWMare and download the vmware converter
2. Install the converter in your computer PC and create a clone. This might sound difficult, but the VMware website has a self explanatory video that tells you how to do step by step. Basically it is the equivalent of creating a "zip" or a "backup" of your existing pc in the "vmware format". Again the website has a video with step by step instructions.
3. Once you have saved your PC, you log into the mac.
4. You install the VW Fusion.
5. You "import" your saved old PC - that is the vmware format.. and bingo... you suddenly your old pc (and ALL the programs it had) runs faster and better in the mac.
6. You are set!!!
It is a great program indeed...
After all is setup, don't get frustrated because you suddenly think you must open the WHOLE windows XP. There is a way to create an icon for the applications you want to use from your PC in the MAC, very smoothly.. it is called UNITY. There is another video that tells you how to do it, is pretty self-explanatory. Basically when your press UNITY icon and run let's say your Outlook, the Outlook Icon pops in your mac Dock.. in that moment press with your mouse and select Show in Finder. Is that easy!
