Spotlight customer reviews:
Customer Rating: Summary: works on Apple MAC computers YEA ! Comment: We've got three of these machines, and they work great on Windows PC computers, but also was happy to find out that our Mac works great with it too. On the Apple Mac computer, we can print from our OS 10.3.9 system easily (have not tried duplexing, but found a site on the web where someone else figured out a workaround, so with lots of work, it may be possible.) It totally does definitely function as a standalone COPIER with a Mac, and as a PRINTER, and also no problem with it as a FAX machine. My understanding is that it won't work as a SCANNER. That's okay with me, since the machine will COPY, FAX, and PRINT on the Mac computer. Highly recommended. Has held up really really well. Occasionally, the paper feed fails and gives an error message for no reason. Just shut off the power switch, and turn it back on and it is fine then. Can't think of a better machine in this price range. Good quality images, and very sturdy. Long lasting laser cartridge, after you get a replacement one.
Customer Rating: Summary: it's good but the toner is expensive. Comment: It works as expected, easy to use and setup.
But the toner is expensive and the starer toner is only 1/4 full.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nice multifunctional machine for the money!! Comment: I read reviews until I had a headache and finally decided to purchase a Canon. I wanted a photo copier (not easy to find) for the speed of printing documents and also flexibility of being able to place objects on the glass for print. Also I can't see paying the costs for a mgenta cart., then a black, then a yellow...what a pain and a costly one!! My last toner cartridge lasted years but was $200 to replace. Then I thought mmm...new at $200 or replace at $200 (wow). During the checkout process through Amazon of a different model it showed me a picture of the MF4150 which had the top loader I really wanted. I'm glad I looked into it because I'll never go back to the style you need to lift the top again. Having said all that this is a very nice machine and I see it went up a little in cost, maybe that's why?? Follow ALL the directions! Most of all I love the answer/fax feature which allows the machine to determine an incoming call as a call or fax and responds accordingly :) No more "call me 1st so I can turn my machine on"..
Compared to my previous unit which was a Xerox I will say it doesn't seem as durable. A lot of the parts seem flimsy but only in comparison because it's actually nicely constructed. Hopefully I get many years out of this. Prints very fast too!
Customer Rating: Summary: WOW! What a grear printer Comment: I just threw out an HP multifunction ink jet printer that kept giving me problems. Before that HP printer, I had an Multifunction Laser Color printer. Both of those printers took a long time to print, the ink jet was just S-L-O-W and the laser took forever to warm up.
The MF4150 has a large paper tray (well alot larger than the 40 sheet tray that I had with my last ink jet printer, the printer holds 250 sheets. And you will need that large capacity because this printer can print very fast. So, if you are looking for a laser printer that has a fast sleep to print time, than this is the printer you are looking for. I mean a few seconds from pressing print or copy till the time a paper prints out.
I purchased this printer on sale at Circuit for one hundred and fifty dollars. Not a bad price for this speed demon. Duplex printing (printing on both sides) is a little slower than one sided printing, but the printer is quick to respond to the request to print.
One part that I was very impressed about is the cost per page. The ink jet printer that I was using was running $0.04 oer page in black, with the option of only using the black cartridge at 750 pages at 5% coverage, this printer does 2000 pages with 5% coverage for $0.0175 per page. Doesn't take too long to do the math to see how much money you will save if you need to print a lot, and my family knows how to find a print button very fast.
The Fax portion of the MF4150 works just like you would like a fax machine to work, and the print quality is pretty good, I mean the ink is black and no noticeable imperfections in the letters that are printed. The max duty cycle for this printer is 7500 pages per month, and that's not too bad either.
For its scanner, it makes use of a Color Contact Image Sensor to produce a maximum optical resolution of 600 by 1200 dpi. Scan formats include .tiff, .bmp, .pdf, and .jpeg, and the machine scans in color.
The printer was very easy to set-up. I have Vista home running on my computer and the driver for Vista are locate on the CANON's web site.
I guess one improvement that I would like to see are networking built in to the product, but for less than $200.00 what can I complain about?
Customer Rating: Summary: Very nice unit. Comment: Very nice unit for the price. Had a little trouble in setting up with answering system.
